Taking 86 colourful characters…
Unique Venues of London (UVL) is a marketing consortium of over 80 unusual event venues around the capital. Ranging from palaces and historic houses to galleries and museums, the collection of venues offers a vast array of spaces to host an event.
All of our organisational and creative skills were put to the test in bringing together such an eclectic mix in a single brochure. We began the task by asking two fundamental questions; what does bringing together 86 individual venues across London represent, and what are the benefits?
And finding a common thread
We found the answers to these questions by playing with numbers. Not always a designer’s favourite subject, we discovered that by adding up all the collective assets and combined experiences, we were able to generate impressive facts which we turned into typographic features to populate and thread the publication together.
For example, as a collective UVL offers 25 venues on the banks of the River Thames, 4 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and 50 places with gardens or outdoor space. These and other ‘fabulous facts’ were published alongside images of all the venues and handy events planning tools including a matrix of the key event types with facilities on offer and an A-Z guide to Unique Venues of London.
Beyond the brochure
Many of the ideas, content pieces and visual assets we generated had a value over and above the brochure; they were also used on their website and other collateral including invitations, advertisements and an exhibition stand.
