Ancient Stones Untold Stories
Visiting Rochester Cathedral has always been an enriching experience. It is, after all, England’s second oldest cathedral. For the curious though, there has long been a frustrating absence of the any sign of the Cathedral’s rich history.
That changed when the Cathedral was awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to develop and implement an interpretation scheme called Ancient Stones, Untold Stories. This was an innovative concept intended to bring the past to life for today’s visitors.
Doing justice to an incredible story
Our brief was to tell the story of Rochester Cathedral in a vivid, engaging and eloquent way through a palette of interpretation material. This included the design of a new brand identity, guidebook, orientation leaflets, interpretation displays and exterior signage.
What followed was an eye-opening and richly rewarding collaborative process.
Winning an award… and countless new admirers
The hard work of the Cathedral staff, designers and contractors was acknowledged, when the project won a Medway Culture and Design Award in the tourism category. Today, we are still very much involved with the cathedral and were retained to design the exhibition graphics for a phase II HLF funded project.
“The way in which you worked to understand the Cathedral and the very professional way you maintained good communications throughout the project, even on the tough days all projects have, makes working with you a very enjoyable experience.
The graphic design plays a key role in drawing together the many different elements of the project and I hope you are as pleased with the results as we are”.
