Remembering the unforgettable
One of the most famous and best loved musical venues in the world, the Royal Albert Hall is also one of the most surprising. For instance, did you know it was once flooded with 56,000 litres of water… or that it once hosted a marathon?
These are just two of the fascinating stories you hear on a guided tour there. To accompany such tours, the Hall wanted to give visitors the chance to purchase a lasting memento.
From La Bohème to Beyoncé
Our brief was to create a lavish souvenir that reflected the Royal Albert Hall’s eclectic and exceptional history.
How to do this? One example is the centre spread of the guide where we showcase colourful ephemera through the ages. These include posters for an early Beatles concert, for the Chelsea Arts Club Ball (1920), and for the Eurovision Song Contest (1968), as well as a Muhammad Ali boxing programme from 1971.
Five languages. Six years (And counting.)
Now in its sixth reprint, and available in five other languages, the demand for this particular souvenir is evidence of the enduring popularity of such paid-for guidebooks.
It serves as a telling reminder of how such publications can offer healthy profit margins for tourist attractions and heritage sites alike.
