Bringing hope to families
The great writer, George Bernard Shaw, may have put it best: “He who has never hoped can never despair.” Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD) is a devastating genetic condition which at the moment has no cure. Affecting children and young adults, two mothers whose children are MLD sufferers decided to set up a charity dedicated to supporting other families and funding new research into the condition.
A symbol of hope
We were commissioned to develop a brand identity and website to promote the charity’s aims and create awareness. A snowdrop was adopted as the emblem for two reasons. Firstly, because it is a symbol of hope that signals the end of winter, and secondly because the flower’s whiteness is a reminder of the brain and central nervous system’s white matter which is changed by MLD.
Making a difference
Our work for the charity has helped them raise their profile and attract funding from grant givers including the National Lottery Community Fund. These funds have enabled them to organise scientific and family conferences which bring together specialists from all over Europe to advance knowledge. Wanting to support the cause too, this year Paul Warrington ran the London Marathon in aid of the charity.
“I started a new Charity for sufferers of a rare, terminal genetic disease. TCE took the time to understand the disease and the very sensitive nature of the brief. TCE produced all the branding, including a website which has been widely admired. TCE also produced leaflets and some very hard-hitting posters, where the images used were key to gaining attention. I can honestly say that since using TCE we have never needed to use anyone else”.
